April 17th 2012 is the 30th anniversary of Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms
Sadly, our government seems intent to ignore this milestone in our history — because, some say, the Charter happened on a Liberal watch. This neglect is truly regrettable, for the Charter is an important achievement for all Canadians: a signal accomplishment in the on-going global evolution of human rights.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely, it is said. Woven into the fabric of our law, the Charter sets reasonable boundaries to such power, protecting individuals and minorities, securing the foundations of a fair and just society.
Stand-up Canada, and be proud!
